Martin Beech Memorial Open Golf Championship.

The 18th March was the second of an annual golf competition in memory of our dear friend, Martin Beech. There were 30 players of low and high handicaps, the weather was windy and cold but we carried on! We had a team talk from Mark Shepherd while we had coffee and then we went off to practice.

The tournament went well and as players returned to the clubhouse, Alan Cooper and Sue Shepherd entered the scores in to the computer and the winner was selected with the highest stableford points.

1st: Derek Mace

2nd: Roger Sutton

3rd: Neil Wilkins

The longest drive was won by Andy Mayers. Nearest to the flag was won by Gerald Frank.

In the ladies section.

1st: Sue Stone
2nd: Mary Humphries
3rd: Jenny Wilkins

The day was rounded off by a splendid carvery put on by Thornbury Golf Centre where there were 80 diners. The presentations and speeches were made by Hilary Sutherland, Jenny and Chris Beech. All the committee wish to thank Alan Cooper, Sue Shepherd and Ian Sutherland for their hard work during the day with scoring and marshalling.

During the day the Golf Club were able to raise some money !! This money was donated to the Palliative Care Unit at Frenchay Hospital. This was where Martin Beech was cared for and the money will help to offer a higher standard of comfort and care.

The whole day went without any problems and the feedback was that everyone had a great time. See you all there next year, put a note in your diary the 17th March 2007!!
